This is the index of either known or suspected perches that the Camden County, GA Sheriff's Department and/or the Georgia State Patrol use when conducting revenue and/or DWB patrols on Interstate 95 in the State of Georgia.

Anyone who lives in Coastal Southeast Georgia is aware that The Camden County Sheriff's Department has raked in a considerable sum of money from cash siezures from motorists on Interstate 95. The means that they use to accomplsh this is to stop cars for bullshit things; like a few MPH over the underposted speed limit, crooked license plates, burned out tag light etc... stupid crap that has nothing to do with safety on the road and everything to do with a pretext to coercing a unConstitutional search of the vehicle; and then to threaten/intimidate the poor sap into consenting to a search under the threat of arrest, continued delay while they get a warrant, dog etc... Of course, any money found is going to be siezed (again in violation of the US Constitution) and then it is up to the motorist to prove that they acquired the money legally (again Unconstitutional - what ever happened to innocent untill proven guilty in this fascistic Bush worshipping nation of ours??).

In My Not So Humble Opinion, this is a reprehensible and unAmerican tactic that would make the likes of Adolf Hitler and Joesph Stalin proud. Since the courts are nothing more than republican appointed nazis who rubber stamp approval to the actions of these fascists, about the only thing that the innocent motorist can do is to be aware of his surroundings and be aware of where these vultures are perching. Most of these perches can be found between Exits 3 (Kingsland, GA) and 26 (Dover Bluff Rd) and in the daytime are easily noted by cut-outs in the trees in the medians and paved crossovers in the medians. The cut-outs that get more use can be easily identified by tire ruts in the ground and the in the more heavily used ones, the grass is dead and the ground bare from police cruisers sitting in those spots. Nighttime is much more perilous as all they have to do is turn their lights off and the unsuspecting victim will never see them untill it is too late. However, this is not always the case. Many times at night, you will see them set up perched perpendicular to the road way with their head lights and spot lights shining at approximately window level across the road. Only one reason for this: to dertemine the race of the driver and decide whether or not to pounce.

Of course, innocent motorists shouldn't carry so much cash to beginwith due to the potential for robbery by a non-police crook (and perhaps if the police were doing their jobs and not preying on motorists you wouldn't have to worry about that), but damnit, this is America and one should be able to travel on a cash basis if they wish and should not have to submit to tracking by the banks and the establishment by way of credit/debit card in order to travel.

One easy way to evade the trap zone would be to just take US 17 north (from Florida's Exit 380) untill you reach Glynn County and pick up I-95 there and/or to make it a point to not stop and make any purchases in Camden County. This would mean not stopping at Exit 1, Exit 3, Exit 6, Exit 7, Exit 14 or Exit 26 (you can find gas just as cheap at Exit 29 in Glynn County). While I don't condone the trade in illegal drugs (and that is a rant for another day), what the police are doing is in my opinion far, far worse. Police resources could be put to far better use in protecting and serving the public if they were in the neighborhoods seeking out the local dealers and users who are causing problems locally instead of concentrating on the mules travelling the interstates in a business venture. Drugs headed north to places like NYC or Philadelphia, PA etc... are the problem of those localities not ours. Here is where I feel that the police are derelect in their duty to the people because every cop engaging in pre-text stops on an interstate is one less cop protecting the citizens of his juristiction like he swore to do.

So, now here is the list of known or suspected traffic traps in Camden County, GA. These traps are presented in the following format. They are from South to North Beginning at approximately Exit 3 (the Kingsland, GA exit) and run to Exit 26 (Dover Bluff Rd) and are identified by GPS coordinates in the format deg-minutes. Note that some traps could have multiple perches to them as some of the perches are located within a hundred or so yards of each other. Also note that this list doesn't purport to be a list of the only places where these predators will set up to pounce. They can literally set up anywhere on the median or shoulder that they want - your safety on the road be damned.

Trap No.   North Latitude   West Longitude   Comments
  1   30deg 47.96'   81deg 39.63'   Just north of Exit 3, heavily used.
  2   30deg 52.53'   81deg 41.08'
  3  30deg 54.49'    81deg 41.15'
  4   30deg 54.89'   81deg 41.15'
  5   30deg 55.38'   81deg 41.15'
  6   30deg 55.93'   81deg 41.15'
  7   30deg 58.94'    81deg 40.18'

  11   31deg 05.49'   81deg 36.27'   Near Exit 26, heavily used.

So, there you have it, the list of Camden County traffic trap perches. In summary, probablly the best thing to do is to just bypass the area on US 17 or other roads, but if you insist on using I-95, you are wise to make sure that your car is in working order and to religiously obey the traffic laws in this reprehensible little county.

Note: Since the election of 2008, when the former Sheriff of Camden County was voted out of office (much like the republicans in general were voted out of office) traffic enforcement on I-95 in Camden County - by my observation - has gone down significantly. That's not to say that they have stopped this disgusting practice, its just an observation.
