This page is an exhibit of various surveyor's "benchmarks,"
that I have run across in my wanderings.
This
is probablly the first benchmark disk I've encountered that I happened across
in October 2006. It is a North Carolina Geodetic Survey traverse station.
The designation of this disk is "LUMP," as stamped on the disk and the PID is
"FZ1996."
The GPS Coordinates for this Disk are 36.27462 North, 81.37848
West. It is set in a rock outcropping on the top of a hill on the aptly
named "Lump Overlook," on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Wilkes County,

This
benchmark is also located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this time
in Virginia where the Parkway crosses the James River. It is a US Gelogical
Survey Disk. Its designation is "3 MLS," as stamped on the disk and the PID
is "GW2499."
The GPS Coordinates for this disk are 37.55556 North,
79.36617 West. It is set in the guard rail of the Harry F. Byrd memorial Bridge
which takes the Parkway over the James River in Amherst County, VA.

This is a National Ocean Survey Bench Mark that is located on
Jekyll Island, GA in the "Millionaire's Village," area along a seawall on the
Jekyll River. It is stamped "7832 A," and is 1 of 4 in the area. Its
official designation is "867 7832 A TIDAL," and there is no PID
associated with it.
The GPS Coordiantes for this disk are 31.05871
North, 81.42335W.

This is a US Engineer Department benchmark, stamped "1 49,"
and designated as "867 7832 Tidal 1." It is located at the foot of the pier at
the Jekyll Marina on Jekyll Island, GA
The GPS Coordinates for this Disk
are 31.05836 North, 81.42331 West.
In the picture below, the disk is
located at the foot of the right hand railing near the entrance to the
pier.

Marina and is set in a seawall.

This is a Georgia Department of Transportation Survey Marker
designated 063-26, located south and east of the South Dunes Picnic Area on
Jekyll Island. GPS Coordinates are 31.02883N, 81.41711 W
Below is a US Army Corps of Engineers Survey Mark #4002 which
is located at the entrance to the fising pier at the Clam Creek Picnic Area on
the northern end of Jekyll Island, GA.
