The joys of changing a lightbulb or two in an american (sic) car.

The joys of changing a headlamp on a 1996 Ford Taurus!

In the picture on the left, we see the passenger side of the car. To access the bulb, you just have to slip your hand down next to the hot alternator and power steering pump pulley, then around the A/C fitting and the expansion tank hose - all while not being able to see a thing because of the cross-member - to reach the bulb to 1) disconnect the electrical connection, 2) remove the retaining ring, 3) remove the bulb (got to be very careful not to shatter the bulb in the process of removal or installation) and then to repeat the process in reverse to install the new bulb.

In the picture on the right of the driver's side of the car, we have a little more fun in bulb replacement. You have to 1) release that retaining clip holding some computer module or another and move it past the ground cable and out of the way, snake your hand along the newly emptied space - all while your vision is obscured by the cross member again - to the back of the headlight assembly to 2) disconnect the electrical connection (fortunately, the connectors just pull right off), 3) remove the retaining ring and 4) remove the lamp (while being careful again to not shatter either the old lamp (could make a mess) or the new lamp (for obvious reasons). Installation is the reverse of the removal process: install the bulb into the assembly, attach the retaining ring (twist counterclockwise off and clockwise on) and reconnect the electrical connection - and, ofcourse, for the drivers side, move the computer back where it belongs and re-attach the retaining clip.

Then turn on the headlights to make sure the new bulbs are working and you are on your way!
