Some assorted images of the Brunswick, GA area as Tropical Storm Fay passes through.
Looking down US17 South in Brunswick on August 21, 2008
Altama Ave, Brunswick, GA August 22, 2008
Altama Ave and GA303
GA25-Spur Southbound
US17 Southbound
The Palms Motel one of the old motor courts on US17 whose old sign has been destroyed by the winds
The junction of US17 and the FJ Torras Causeway. The intersection is flooded and the right most lane blocked due to the depth of the water
Looking out over where the marshes usually are
For both of these, you are looking over the famed Marshes of Glynn
Looking over the flooded Howard Coffin Park at the junction of US17 and US25
Again, looking over the marsh
A clearer view of the marshes taken out the windshield from Marshes of Glynn Overlook park as opposed to from the side window. Normally, you would see green marshland from here to St. Simons Island as opposed to the Atlantic Ocean spilling into the marsh. This is being caused by a combination of high tide, a full moon and a strong easterly wind (about 60MPH, give or take) from Fay. Note the high water mark from the debris that was washed up into the park. Sorry about the wiperblade in some of the pictures. Its kind of difficult to time shooting the picture with the cycle of the wipers.
Another view from the park, this time towards the FJ Torras Causeway
Exiting the park and looking down US25 - better known as Gloucester St to the locals. Note the traffic light swaying in the breeze
Again looking out the side window - obscured by rain on the glass
Looking south on US17, south of the junction with US25. The parking lot for Spanky's (the yellow sign) was flooded
Looking at marshland west of US17 between US17 and Sidney Lanier Bl - which was impassable due to the high water from the storm
Road Closed: Approaching the junction with US341. Continuing south would take you over the Sidney Lanier Bridge which was closed due to the high winds associated with the storm
Road Closed: More of the junction and the barricades set up to restrict traffic from approaching the bridge
Travelling on US341 northbound (also known as Newcastle St) and the detour for US17 south as the sign is trying to say. Would be helpful to have a US17 shield on there too
Three sines for the price of one. The blue sign in the foreground would direct traffic out of town in the event of an evacuation. The sign in the background is another marker for the US17 south detour (with a shield this time). Deeper in the background is the regular shield directing traffic for US341
Looking west after passing downtown Brunswick and looking over the Brunswick Marina and more flooded marshes
