This is the new camera rig I use for making the road videos. It is essentially the same camera except it is mounted onto a suction cup
based camera mount that attaches to the windshield. The mount is a Panavise Model 809 CCTV Camera Window Mount. It can be purchased
directly from Panavise or from retailers like Amazon. My mount is equipped with
an extension arm that comes seperately from the mount. The Panavise mount is *much* easier to set up than the tri-pod based
system was, though I should continue to use the black towel on the dash to minimise reflections on the windscreen.
This is the previous mounting system that I used when making the videos.
This is the previous set-up I used when making road videos. Essentially, the tri-pod is set up in the passenger side floorboards with the stem of the tri-pod against
the dashboard (the legs of the tri-pod are adjustible to fit the ups and downs of the floorboard). The passenger seat is then pulled forward against the tri-pod which keeps the
tri-pod from wanting to move forward or backwards in response to acceleration and/or braking. A piece of duct tape holds the tri-pod to the dash and provides lateral stability
for the tri-pod when turning.
Then a tape is loaded and set to recording while the car is still. Once the car is in motion, I do not look at or touch the
camera untill the vehicle is safely stopped.
